As confirmed by Star Cinema’s Managing Director, Malou Santos, Angel Locsin can no longer portray the role of Darna in the big screen due to health conditions. According to Direk Malou, Angel’s life is more important than the movie. The film’s director, Erik Matti also stressed out that they at Star Cinema are concerned on the well being of the actress that’s why they really decided to let her go for the Darna role, though they also felt bad about it since Angel is really their #1 choice.
It was in 2005 when Angel Locsin first played the role of Mars Ravelo’s character, Darna. Star Cinema decided to do a remake with the same artist, Locsin, to be the Darna again in the big screen. But we guess this isn’t really meant to be. It was almost 2 years ago when Angel Locsin revealed that she is suffering from a disc bulge, or a slipped disc, a common injury of the spine sustained from one’s invertebral disc. Doctors said it was curable, and 8-10 months of rehabilitation and medication can help bring back to normal her spine condition.
After doing some physical activities again lately, in preparation for the film, Angel’s trainor revealed she again experienced some pain in her lower back which made her doctors decide not to give her the clearance anymore to continue with the training.
Angel can still do her normal activities, less the more strenuous ones. She still has other projects lined up for the season, like a primetime series in Abs-Cbn and upcoming other movies this year.
So, let’s just wait and see (and guess) who’s the new Darna who will soar high in the big screen. As for Angel, hope she get’s really better soon.
